CALL TO WORSHIP To The King Annie Herring & Matthew Ward
To the King who gave everything for me; whose body crucified high on Calvary’s tree;
whose redemptive blood makes way for me; I now give everything.
To the King who came in the form of a child - all powerful God; and yet, so mild,
whose obedience shows the way for me, I humbly come to Thee.
Chorus: To the King alone I will give my life. To the King I will sing both day and night.
To the Lamb of God who has paid the price, To the King alone – I will give my life.
To the King, the one true royalty - though King, He has befriended me,
but greater still He lives in me! I give Him everything. Chorus x2
(end with:) To the King alone – I will give my life.

WELCOME …
The Sundays in Lent are like Crocus flowers in the springtime. They appear in Lent, but are not counted as part of the traditional 40 days of discipline associated with Lent. This reminds us we take up the disciplines (to daily prayer, Scripture reading, meditation on the crucifixion, giving up something worldly, taking up an act of service to others), to help us grow in being open to being raised from the death of slavery to self, to be set free, here, and now, to be children of God, living abundantly, forever, by holding to the teachings of the risen Jesus.
“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,
and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – Jesus
John 8:31-32
HYMN Christ the life of all the living # 94
INVOCATION page 158
Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
Congregation: Amen
P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
C: But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Silence for reflection on God's Word and for self-examination.
P: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.
C: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways to the glory of your holy name. Amen.
P: Almighty God in his mercy has given his Son to die for you and for his sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of the Word I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
SONG Your Grace is Enough Matt Maher
Great is your faithfulness, O God of Jacob
You wrestle with the sinner's restless heart.
You lead me by still waters into mercy
Where nothing can keep us apart.
Chorus: So remember your people - Remember your children
Remember your promise, O God.
For Your grace is enough. Now Your grace is enough.
Yes, Your grace is enough. Yes, Your grace is enough for me.
Great is your love and justice, God of Jacob.
You use the weak to lead the strong.
You lead us in the song of Heaven's vict'ry,
And all Your people sing along. Chorus

PRAYER BEFORE THE READINGS
Pastor: Let us pray.
All: Almighty God, by Your great goodness mercifully look upon Your people that we may be governed and preserved evermore in body and soul; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
FIRST READING Jeremiah 31:31-34 (ESV) ![]()
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares theLord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
SECOND READING Romans 3: 19-28 (ESV) ![]()
Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith.
This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.
GOSPEL READING Mark 10: 32-45 (ESV) ![]()
And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, andJesus was walking ahead of them. And they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.”And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?” And they said to him, “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.”Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?”And they said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized, but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.” And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
HYMN Lord, keep us steadfast in your word # 334
MESSAGE “Love and Action”
Romans 8: 31b, 37-39 (NIV)
What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
NICENE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried. And the third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. And he will come again with glory, to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
OFFERING Jesus Loves Me
Jesus loves me this I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong.
They are weak but He is strong.
Refrain: Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me,
The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me, He who died,
Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in. refrain:
PRAYERS (1 Timothy 1:1; 2:1-4)
Leader: Let us pray as God’s Word teaches us.
All: God our Saviour, and Christ Jesus our hope, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth, we come to you with petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving for all people— for rulers and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
(Petitions and prayers of intercession and thanksgiving may be added.)
Leader: Into your care, O Father, we commend all we pray for, trusting in your mercy through Jesus, Your Son, our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit is one God, now and forever.
All: Amen.
THE CELEBRATION OF HOLY COMMUNION
P: It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to you, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God. You bid your people cleanse their hearts and prepare with joy for the paschal feast. Renew our zeal in faith and life, and bring us to the fullness of grace that belongs to the children of God. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify your glorious name, evermore praising you and saying…
All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of Sabaoth. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he, blessed is he, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest!
All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen
Please read the following before communing:
We believe God desires all adult baptized Christians to come to His table to be strengthened in faith.
- We also believe that in Holy Communion, Christ is present, body and blood, with the bread and wine.
- We come confessing our sins, desiring to change, and desiring assurance of God’s forgiveness.
- If this is your belief, we welcome you to receive Holy Communion here, at this, the Lord’s Table.
- If you have gluten or wine allergies, before the service please ask Pastor or an elder about alternatives.

All: O God the Father, the fountain and source of all goodness, who in loving-kindness sent your only-begotten Son into the flesh, we thank you that for his sake you have given us pardon and peace in this sacrament, and we ask you not to forsake your children – but always to rule our hearts and minds by your Holy Spirit that we may be enabled to serve you constantly; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. CLOSING SONG My Saviour My God Aaron Shust
I am not skilled to understand – what God has willed what God has planned.
I only know at His right hand – stands one who is my Savior.
I take Him at His word and deed. Christ died to save me, this I read.
And in my heart I find a need – of Him to be my Savior.
That He would leave his place on high – and come for sinful man to die,
You count it strange; So once did I – before I knew my Savior.
Chorus: My Savior loves, my Savior lives, My Savior’s always there for me.
My God He was, my God He is, my God is always gonna be. (repeat)
Yes, living, dying, let me bring – my strength, my solace from this spring
That He who lives to be my King – once died to be my Savior.
That He would leave his place on high – and come for sinful man to die,
You count it strange; So once did I – before I knew my Savior. Chorus
